Apurba Bezbaruah is a well-known name for Assamese music lovers. The singer has hit numbers like ‘Kopou pahi tore khopat’, ‘Sah Gosor komol patot’, ‘nasoni O’, ‘Nibisaro aaji karo to his credit’. He was the first to sing for the E.P record of Noreceo company during 1978-80. Bezbaruah was the first Assamese singer of who had the privilege of recording his songs in the state instead of going to Calcutta. He is credited with initiating the trend of Bihuxuriya modern songs. In his musical journey of nearly four decades , this veteran singer has sung for more than 200 albums. With different experiments on folk songs of Assam, Apurba Bezbaruah has made innumerous contributions towards enriching modern Assamese music. The renowned singer, composer cum music director has gifted so many popular songs to the listeners. The songs he composed like ‘Kon Kota aaso aah oi aah’, ‘Maijan toke oi dekha pai’, ‘Tore mon paboloi chenai moi boliya’, ‘Log diyar kotha asil noire ghatot’, ‘O Toramai bihuwan moloi boisone nai’, ‘Senai tor pepar mate’ have remained as evergreen.These popular songs were sung by famous artistes like Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, Ridip Dutta, Sandhya Menon, Anima Choudhury, Bijay Bhuyan, Luna Sonowal etc.

Many singers from present generation have also rendered their voices to his compositions. Bezbaruah worked as the music director in many popular Assamese cinemas including writing songs for ‘Ronga Nodi’, ‘Bukur majot jole’, ‘I killed him sir’, ‘Xonor kharu nelage mok’ etc. With his lucid expression and blend of traditional tunes of Bihu, Bongeet and modern musical elements, Bezbaruah became a forerunner in the beginning of a new trend in Assamese music. Presence of folk tunes and modern elements is his trademark. The leading singer and music director was born in 1951 at Nazira of Sibsagar district. He did his schooling at Nazira and graduated in History from B. Barooah college. Apurba Bezbaruah was approved as a composer by All India Radio Dibrugarh station in 1974-75. He also worked as a casual announcer at Guwahati radio station. So far, Bezbaruah composed more than 2000 songs in last forty years. Recently he has published an anthology titled ‘Apurba Sangeet’. It contains his 501 selected compositions. On the other hand, the versatile singer has released an audio CD of songs based on the lives and culture of tea tribe people. He expressed hope that the CD entitled Soto Mini would be able to give the taste of true musical essence to the listeners.
