While returning from a recent trip, my flight got delayed.
My Delhi to Guwahati flight was originally at 3:45 PM.
It finally got pushed to 8 PM because of technical glitch in Air Traffic Control (ATC). But even then, I didn’t mind at all. Airports have their own calm for me.
I never get irritated much with flight delays, especially when the next day is a Saturday or Sunday and I don’t have any important work waiting.
In fact, I enjoy it.
Roaming around the airport… relaxing in different corners… rummaging through the books at airport shops.. using the resting facilities… lying down on those recliners… … and of course, the free food airlines offer during long delays. This time I treated myself with Domino’s Pizza with the free voucher provided by the airline.
Another thing I enjoy during delays is talking to random fellow travellers.
Though a reserved person, I try to converse with people during the waiting hours. A small conversation here and there makes the waiting lighter. You share stories for a few minutes, laugh about the delay, and then move on.
Once you settle into that airport rhythm, time passes smoothly. You sit comfortably on a recliner, watch people, watch flights take off, sip something warm, and let the hours drift.
Sometimes, a delay becomes a small trip within the trip.
